Rare and desirable double-barrel flintlock blunderbuss with center-mounted spring bayonet, iron cannon barrels, signed Jackson, circa approx. 1790-1820. The gun measures approx. 27” overall with 11-7/8” barrels of each showing approx. 7/8” bore and are nicely ringed at the muzzles for a canon-barrel type effect. The barrels show 50-70% original tobacco brown damascene pattern finish with some erosion and light pitting at the edges, normal aging. The locks show traces of silvery grey case hardening and are fully original with correct hammers, top jaws, screws, small parts. The stock is very good plus with crisp checkering at the wrist, some minor dings, mars, scratches, light overcoating of schalack or spray varnish, no sanding, great wood to metal fit. Generally very good overall with original to the period horn-tipped ramrod which is proper for this gun. The spring bayonet is working and locking and there is some very bright original finish on the top rib beneath the bayonet. Double-barrel blunderbuss’ are very scarce and desirable, and particularly hard to find with original bayonets. Provenance, Chris Anderson, Ft.
