Manufactured from 1852 to 1855 with an estimated total of 1,857 Model 1851 carbines produced. The carbine has the distinctive 'box lock' hammer mounted inside the breech and hinged Maynard tape primer door located in front of the hammer. Brass barrel bands and stock are without a patch box and the buttplate is unmarked. The carbine has the sling bar and ring mounted on the left side. Brass blade front and "squirrel ear" rear sights on the barrel marked "ROBBINS &/LAWRENCE" between the rear band and rear sight. The Sharps 1848 patent date is stamped on the upper tang and the Maynard 1845 patent date is stamped on the primer door.

Condition: Good. The carbine has a dark brown-gray patina overall with some crisp markings. The brass is dark yellow in appearance. The revarnished wood is good with some minor dings and scratches, along with a minor chip missing on the forearm near the frame (left side). Mechanically fine.
