Operating out of New York, Schuyler, Hartley & Graham was a major supplier of arms and uniform items for America's military men, as in that era most items of a man's uniform were private purchase items. Published during the Civil War, this book is both a sales catalog and also a highly detailed account of the equipment and lifestyle of the fighting men of the Union, containing regulation listings for uniforms, swords, accoutrements, as well as pay grade data for both officers and enlisted men for the Army, Navy, Marines and Revenue Service (later known as the Coast Guard). Additionally, the photo plates (mostly black and white, with a few colorized examples) provide further detail on the aforementioned, along with listings for an assortment of the popular firearms of the day, including Sharps, Spencer, Joslyn and other carbines, Enfield rifles, Colt revolving long arms, Colt, Tranter and Smith & Wesson #1 and #2 revolvers, Deringer pistols, and more.
