Marked "PHILLIP WILSON & CO PHILADA CAST STEEL 148" on the top barrel flat behind the rear sight and stamped "402" on the muzzle. Heavy octagon barrel with solid under rib, wooden ram rod secured by two steel pipes, globe front sight with the front upper portion cut away and replacement folding leaf Lawrence patent marked Sharps rear sight. A dove tail has been cut directly behind the original unfilled dove tail. The breech plug has two silver inlaid bands. There is a base for a tang sight mounted on the upper "Hawken Style" reverse tapered tang. Double set triggers and mounted with a straight grip, double wedge secured (also Hawken style) half stock with an iron end cap, checkered wrist, cheek piece, iron crescent buttplate and patch box.

Condition: Very good. The barrel has a brown patina with a few small areas of minor oxidation and spotting. The hammer and lock have a smooth dark brown patina with a small amount of minor pitting on the lock. The buttplate and patch box have been cleaned and show a silver gray patina with pitting on the buttplate. The stock is good with a minor crack on the left side flat, overall some minor dents and dings and the checkering is crisp in places, moderately worn in others, There is a portion of the striking end of the hammer head absent. The markings are clear. The action is very good.
