This is a fine early Paiute Native American Indian beaded papoose cradle board from the circa early 1900's. The piece shows a basketry woven frame that is covered in Indian tanned hide that is accented beautifully with glass trade seed beadwork in a geometric pattern. The beadwork includes chalk white, semi-transparent dark blue, semi-transparent red with a beaded strip having Cheyenne pink, semi-transparent sky padre blue and semi-transparent dark blue. The papoose covering is delicately made with a woven basketry awning having a trade clothe geometric pattern and fancy beaded edge fringe. The entire piece shows various long hand cut fringe pieces in Indian tanned hide and beadwork. At the center of the cradle board is an early original Indian doll having a trade clothe construction, trade clothe clothing, and yarn hair with wonderful facial features and faceted trade bead eyes. The piece shows a donerful early age and overall good condition with little to no bead loss. The visor is damaged on the left side when looking at the piece (disconnected only one side and connected on the other side). Measures 18.5"L x 7"W x 6.5"D.
