Ornate basket-hilt Scottish broadsword attributed to Walter Allen of Stirling, Scotland, circa approx. 1750, formerly in the collection of Allen Bateman, illustrated September 1994 in a sale of Scottishbroadswords by Scottish Sword and Shield of Seattle, Washington, Item #5. With catalog. The sword measures 40-1/2" overall with 34-1/4" blade showing Andrea Ferrar markings. The sword remains in good condition withsome slight erosion and pinprick pitting with some light cleaning long ago. The grip shows and old leather wrap, the pommel is probably an old replacement of the correct style and era. There is one small area of damage to the hilt between the rings. Est: $3,500 - $7,000
