(Disneyland, 1969) An original hand-painted "stretching portrait" used within Disneyland's "Haunted Mansion" attraction. As the elevator in the mansion descends, these portraits would "stretch" to reveal their full image. However, the consistent "stretching" would eventually cause some wear to the canvas, and these portraits would need to be replaced. From 1969 to 1972, these portraits were all hand-painted whereas later versions were printed. This stretching portrait depicts a woman standing on a tightrope over an alligator. This particular image, designed by Imagineer Marc Davis, is the most recognizable of the four portraits and has become synonymous with the attraction. The canvas measures 120"x45" and the portrait is in very good condition with some scuffing along the left-side and minor wear from use. These portraits are exceptionally rare and sought-after artifacts from the earliest years of the "Haunted Mansion".
