This is an original studio portrait cabinet card photograph of Chief Stinking Bear from circa 1890. The portrait shows Chief Stinking Bear wearing a feather bonnet and breech cloth while holding an American flag in one hand and a riding quirt in the other. A caption in the photo reads "No. 18 Chief Stinking Bear, A Leader of the Friendly Sioux Indians Pine Ridge S.D.". The back of the photograph is marked "Northwestern Photographic Company, Chadron-Nebraska / Headquarters for all kinds of Indian and Late War Views of Pine Ridge Agency, So. Dak.".
