Original Art Drawings Ed Margolis Crown on Wheels COW
Commercial artist Ed Margolis did these sketches and drawings of a COW, for some product called "Crown On Wheels." We're not sure what it was, but these are still great drawings of a cow driving a car, and on roller skates. These come directly from the portfolio of Ed Margolis himself. There are both marker drawings and photocopies, some on tracing paper, on sheets up to 8 1/2 x 11 inches in size. The drawings probably date to the 1960's or 70's, and are in excellent condition overall. * This campaign may have never seen completion, so these drawings may be the only existing examples of the "Crown On Wheels," making them ususual advertising collectibles. This item was done by commercial artist Ed Margolis. He worked in suburban Chicago, and for 32 years owned his own design business called Emar Studio. There he did graphic design and artwork for numerous companies, including Hirsch Tools, Sears, and the Burry Biscuit Company, a division of Quaker Oats. He created the packaging and store display for Burry's for their special Batmobile toy promotion, inspired by the Batman television series in 1969. He also designed the logo for the former local suburban public transit organization Nortran. His approach to advertising was to portray the product itself in a realistic fashion. His talent for realism was excellent, yet he also exhibited a comic art style of drawing, along with a great sense of humor. These qualities made him an outstanding graphic artist. *
