1) U.S. 1873 Trowel Bayonet. An improvement on earlier designs, the Model 1873 was the first trowel bayonet to see full production. 10" long and 3 1/2" wide bright spade shaped blade with blue socket marked "PAT.APR.16th72" and a swivel lock hilt . Black leather scabbard, fitted with a brass tip and hanging hook. Included with the bayonet is a removable wooden pommel, designed to make the bayonet more useful for digging. 2) U.S. Springfield Model 1880 Hunting Knife, 8 1/2" long and 2" wide with single fullers and a spear tip. Second type brass guard, with "SPRINGFIELD/ ARMORY" and "U.S./ 1892" on the sides, and a ribbed wood grip with unmarked pommel. Black leather Watervliet Arsenal sheath, with a brass throat, "J.B.C./ 1st N.H. INFty" scratched onto the back, and a later addition Watervliet brass cartridge belt hook.

1) Fine, with some mild spotting on the blade, 85% blue finish on the hilt with a brown patina forming, and mild handling marks overall. Sheath is good, with some scuffing and dry spots on the leather. 2) Excellent, with light blade spotting, a dark patina with dents on the brass, minor handling marks on the excellent wood and fine sheath with scratches and cracking.
