Available for your consideration in this lot is an antique Oliver Number 5 typewriter. The typewriter was nicknamed "The Fiver", and shows a serial plate reading "357180", dating its manufacture to 1913. The Oliver Typewriter Co. was the creator of the "visible typewriter". This machine is marked on the case "The Oliver", unlatch the four complex chromed latches, lift the case by the leather handle, and expose the beautiful machine underneath - The typewriter is marked top to bottom; "The Oliver Typewriter - The No. 5. Standard Visible Typewriter - Manufactured By The Oliver Typewriter CO. Chicago U.S.A. - Keep Machine Cleaned and Oiled". The typewriter includes a matching stand, with a drop leaf on each side. The machine is in good aesthetic condition, and operates - though the left bank of keys is bent, causing a stiff button press - The typewriter measures 38 1/2" tall, 20 5/8" wide, and 14 1/8" deep.
