Olaf Wieghorst (1899-1988) "Cowboy on Bucking Bronco" 15" x 11", oil on panel. Signed out to an old rodeo star it reads on front: "To Dave, Here is hoping you never buck-off. Your cowboy friend, Olaf". Write up on backside. Wieghorst was a real cowboy who broke horses for ranchers, served in the 5th U.S. Cavalry on the Mexican border in the days of Pancho Villa. Also worked as a mounted policeman in New York and painted in his spare time. There is a museum dedicated to this great American artist and his work at his home in El Cajon, California. His works are in most important western collections and museums around the country. John Wayne loved his work so much that he had him paint the title paintings for the movie, El Dorado and had him play the part of the gunsmith named "Swede', who made the sawed off shotgun for James Caan who played the role of Mississippi!
