An interesting non-regulation item, fitted with a 1840 Heavy Cavalry style hilt and equipped with a single fuller, 35 3/4 inch blade, decorated with an etched field on each side, with the markings "WARRANTED TO CUT WROUGHT IRON" in the right fuller and "TIFFANY & Co/NEW YORK" on the left ricasso. Gilt finished 2-branch guard, with floral wreath designs on the helmet pommel and copper wire wrap on the sharkskin grip. With an enlisted pattern iron scabbard with dual suspension rings.
Condition: Very good, with some minor spotting on the fine blade, which shows a strong, well detailed etching and an unmarred edge. Over 80% of the gilt finish remains on the guard, with mild wear on the wrap. Scabbard is good, with a throat screw missing and spotting and mild dings and scratches.
