Offer for sale is a Navajo Pictorial rug. Woven traditionally by know traditional artist Nethe Nelson in her hometown of Three Turkey, this pictorial rug crosses with Chinle region designs. Weavings that incorporate images of objects and people in their designs have slowly gained in popularity since the early days of rug-making. Such Pictorial Rugs may include small representational images within a larger geometric design, or may consist primarily-even solely-of a picture. Small pictorial motifs such as feathers, arrows, animals and other common objects may have held some personal significance for the individual weaver. This regional Navajo Rug style is named for the town of Chinle at the mouth of Canyon de Chelly. The Chinle style was developed by Mary Cabot Wheelwright and Cozy McSparron, a trader at Chinle. They sought to revive weaving using classic period designs with vegetal dyes. These two styles combine in the striking rug. Will the pictorial rug displays a peach field with animals the geometric design appear to mimic the Chinle region designs. This beautifully made rug has a tight weave and is in good condition for its age. Measures:
