Manufactured circa 1865 to 1870 with a total production of about 12,000 before being purchased by Colt in 1870. The top of the barrel is marked "NATIONAL ARMS CO BROOKLYN. N.Y.", with the serial number on the underside. The assembly number "A31" is stamped on the left side of the frame under the grip, on the inside of each grip panel and an "A" is visible on the breech face of the barrel. Silver plated brass frame and blue barrel, with the standard scroll engraving on the barrel and frame, blade front and hammer notch rear sights, serrated hammer and trigger, and fitted with smooth walnut grips.

Condition: Very good plus. The barrel retains 25% original blue finish, mainly in the protected areas, with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The frame retains 20% original dark silver finish with a natural aged patina on the balance. The grips are also fine with most of the original varnish remaining, showing some high edge wear and a few minor dings and nicks. There is some slight play in the barrel, otherwise the action is fine. The markings and engraving are clear.
