Model 1913 Patton Saber, Complete with Scabbard, Straps, Spade Shovel Attachment, and Picket Pin in Leather Sheath, marked ''US'' over eaglehead proof on one side of ricasso; ''LF&C'' (Landers, Frary & Clark) on other, dated 1919. The last functional saber issued to the U.S. Cavalry, designed by then Lt. George S. Patton after his return from the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm. At the Mounted Service School in Ft. Reilly, KS, Patton was given the prestigious title of ''Master of the Sword''. It was at this time he designed the M.13 saber, which some say is influenced by the British Army's 1908 & 1912 pattern Cavalry sword. Condition is about fine. Blade is bright with only the lightest carbon spotting. Guard shows very light patina. Original leather washer is present and has darkened over time. Grip checkering remains sharp and crisp. Khaki canvas scabbard cover shows light to moderate staining and darkening. Straps and attaching hardware retain approx. 80% of their original tan finish. Spade shows moderate pitting and re-blackening. Picket pin has minor paint losses, with leather sheath remaining in fine condition. Est.: $600-$800.
