Model 1852 U.S. Naval Officer's Sword, by Horstmann, Philadelphia, with naval motifs named to Sargent Forre, which is etched on right side of 30'' blade. Sword measures approx. 36'' overall with wire-wrapped skateskin grip, Phrygian helmet pommel cap, with oak spray and acorns cast in high relief. Pierced guard is cast with ''USN'' to bottom portion; guard begins and terminates with dolphin heads. Leather scabbard with throat, chape, and central portion showing rope and dolphin motifs. Leather hanger and partial belt remain. Portapee to crossguard portion of sword. Condition is very good to fine with light thinning and minor toning to gilt on guard. Blade remains bright. Leather portion of scabbard and belt with light crazing and losses. Est.: $1,000-$1,500.
