Model 1820 Infantry Officer's Sword, with Indian head pommel, by Horstmann & Sons, Philada, beautiful 30'' bright blade with blue and gold details, pearl grips, and gilt crossguard and pommel. Baroque knucklebow attaches to shoulder of Indian and is decorated with floral type scrolls. In brass scabbard showing light simple decoration, the back of which is stamped ''132'' (possibly Horstmann's catalog number), just below Horstmann's scroll trademark. Used from approx. 1821. Condition is fine. Blade shows light wear near guard to blue finish. Gilt has thinned to approx. 30%, much of which remains on backstrap. Scabbard with light dents and minor discoloration. A beautiful early American sword. Est.: $800-$1,200.
