Notes:Lithograph after (d'apres) Magritte, facsimile signed with Magritte Estate watermark, authorized by ADAGP, France. Printed on pure chiffon, Velin de Rives, 300 gr/square meter. This image was recreated by a master engraver and required over eighteen passes through a flat-bed lithographic press to be completed. Each print is signed in the plate, stamped with the seal of the Magriite Estate and signed by the publisher on the verso. This is part of an editon of 300 and measures 30 3/4 x 22 3/4 inches. Le Chateau des Pyrenees was painted in 1959 and it is part of the Musee D'israel in Jerusalem. This painting originated from the friendship between Magritte and New York lawyer Harry Torzyner. The latter orders a painting from Magritte for his office, in order to cover a window overlooking a nondescript building. After an exchange of many letters discussing the painting, Magritte imagined a marvelous surrealist painting resembling a painted collage: a rock becomes so light that it gets to float in the air above the waves.
