There are many ways one might describe Eva Duarte de PerÛn (1919-52), better known both now and then as Evita. The wife of Argentine president, Juan PÈron, she virtually co-governed the country during the first six years of his administration. Evita wielded enormous political power and formed the Eva PerÛn Social Aid Foundation, an organization that doled out money to the needy. She also militantly championed the causes of women, labor, and the poor. As stated, many words could be chosen to lay upon her head. However, "Youth Soccer Booster” most likely wouldn’t be the top three to top people’s lists. And yet here she is, surrounded by the fresh-faced competitors in an offset poster from the late 1940s for the Argentine Youth Soccer Championship, with text at bottom that proclaims, "There is room in my heart for all the children of my Native Land.”
