Since 1926, the ornately carved 16-story tower of the elegant Biltmore Hotel has graced the Miami skyline of Coral Gables, its majestic thrust a replica of the Giralda Tower in the Cathedral of Seville. It has played host to global heads of state and Hollywood royalty, providing sumptuous diversion to both respected athletes and unsavory underworld elements. And yet, its Mediterranean luxuriance is relegated to background status for this golfing behemoth’s tee shot–an image as potently nostalgic as a screening of choppy black-and-white newsreel footage–to promote the Coral Gables Miami Biltmore Open. The view seen here, with its Tiger Woods-sized gallery, is of the 71-par championship course’s 9th hole and its finish at the base of the ever-present hotel.
