Late Production Model 1896  Bolo  Broomhandle Mauser Pistol with Holster and Shoulder Stock
This is an example of an late production Model 1896 "Bolo" Broomhandle Mauser pistol. This pistol was developed around 1915 and is called a Bolo because of it's distinctive shape of smaller dimension pistol grip, as compared to the standard 1896 Mauser pistols. These were widely sold through Europe and in the U.S. with serial numbers found up in the 600,000 range. The top of the barrel extension is marked "WAFFENFABRIK,/ MAUSER,/ OBERNDORF A/N, the left side with a "crown / U" proof and the rear milled panel on the right side of the frame is marked "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER / OBERNDORF A. NECKAR". This version has the short four inch barrel with the banded front sight with the military style tangent rear sight graduated from 50-1000 meters. It is correctly fitted with a set of original Bolo style grips that are correctly numbered on the inside of each grip. Complete with an unmarked brown leather flap holster with shoulder strap and wooden shoulder stock/holster marked "362" on the attaching iron.

Condition: Period refinished, including the small components with most finish remaining. The small components, except the extractor, have been finished blue (not fire blue) and there is strong original niter blue on the extractor. The grips are very good with a few minor dings and dents The markings are clear. The action is fine. The holster is fair plus with some heavy wear on the bottoms of the magazine pouches and some age cracking. The wooden shoulder stock is good with a dark patina on the metal and numerous minor scratches, dings and dents.
