This lot includes an exceptional ancient Native American Indian Hardin spear point. The large point measures 9 5/8" long, and displays random flaking, elliptical shape, and a prominent acute shoulder, with a very subtle concave base. Points such as these are found in the Midwest region of the United States, and typically date between 10,000 - 7,500 B.P.. This excellent example of a Hardin spear point shows characteristics of local chert. John Powell named the Southeastern Hardin for examples sparsely scattered across the Southeastern United States. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery. The point shows overall good condition with a repair across the top as shown. The point measures 2 1/8” wide and 9 5/8" long.
