You are bidding on a pair of Korean War era USAF flight helmets. While the helmets look virtually identical, they actually represent a small evolution in USAF helmets. The white helmet with the blue stars is the earlier of the two, a P-1B, adopted in 1949. The P-1 series was the first standard-issue hard flight helmet used by the Air Force for fighter aircraft. This particular helmet has a manufacturer date stamp of 1954. The second helmet is a P-3, standardized in 1951. The P-3 looks nearly identical to the P-1B, but was designed to use a new rigid, external visor assembly, adding wind-blast and sun-glare protection. The new visor assembly replaced rubber-framed goggles used with the P-1 series helmets. Both helmets have leather head cushions marked "U.S. Air Force" and have tags stating helmet style and size (both Small), and place of manufacture. Both are in good condition for their age. They each measure about 7" (ear to ear) x 9.5" (front to back) x 10" tall.
