This deluxe book is illustrated with 32 tipped-in beautiful color plates under printed tissue guards on dove grey vellum pages. Also 72 b-w photo plates. Gilt page tops, gilt cover picture stamp of Grecian urn, gilt lettering on spine. Blue cloth hardcover, deckle cut page edges. One blank page has tear professionally taped. One tipped-in page loosened. Burton was a lifelong potter himself and worked for the Wedgwood firm for five years as a chemist. There he learned much about their formulae and how they related to the other Staffordshire potteries in general. Invaluable for research into this field. 10" high X 7" wide, 195 pp with index.
