(Muscalus, John Anthony). EARLY BANKING ENTERPRISES IN RELATION TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF PUBLIC EDUCATION. The original typescript with manuscript materials. (University of Pennsylvania, 1944). Published in Philadelphia in 1945 as The Use of Banking Enterprises in the Financing of Public Education, 1796-1866. 237 numbered 8.5 by 11 inch typed sheets, along with handwritten notes, reproductions, etc. A combination of original and carbon typescript featuring handwritten additions, corrections and changes, accompanied by handwritten notes, photostatic reproductions of documentary materials, etc. All housed in a black pebbled cloth “Spring Binder,” paper spine label reading THESIS / MY COPY. Generally near fine. Unique. The manuscript changes appear to have been incorporated in the published work. A prolific author on a wide variety of obsolete paper money topics (Frank Katen enumerated eighty different publications), this relatively early work is certainly among Muscalus’s most important numismatic contributions.
