From the Nick and Suzanne Nicholas Collection we have a very intricate melon design and sgraffito owl seed jar signed by Brenda Tafoya, measures 1.5''H x 2''W, Tafoya (Jemez) has been making pottery since she was 10 years old, beginning with simple bowls and has refined her work to what it is today. She has developed her own style, which she refers to as ''the melon cut style'' using three different colors of slip. Her trademark is the kiva step, which you will find on both the designs for the pottery and in her signature. Her designs include serpents, hummingbirds, butterflies and owls with the melon cut.
