Important presentation Police badge from Superintendent of Pittsburgh Police Peter P. Walsh to legendary New York City police officer and long-term Colt Firearms employee J. Henry “Fitz” FitzGerald. The Inspector’sbadge is in overall excellent condition with gold finish and dark blue enamel lettering “Inspector, Bureau of Police, Pittsburgh, PA” with period inscription on the reverse “Presented to J. H. FitzGerald by Sup’t. ofPolice Peter P. Walsh, Pittsburgh, PA, 1931”. “Fitz” was an employee and major promoter of Colt firearms from 1918 to 1944. During that time, he designed legendary modifications to defensive law enforcement handguns whichincluded his famous “Fitz” revolvers with the front portion of the trigger guard removed, bobbed hammers and modified front sights, making guns more easily concealable and quicker to be drawn. “Fitz” was widely knownthroughout the U.S. and was a friend of famed American aviator Col. Charles A. Lindbergh who carried a “Fitz” converted Detective Special everywhere with him following the trial of his son’s kidnapper. A great
