Icons & Legends of Hollywood

Auction Details

The Icons & Legends of Hollywood.

The words “icon” and “legend” are oftentimes overused in today’s society, but one would be hard pressed to find better descriptors for the assemblage of extraordinary costumes, props and relics present in this monumental sale.

From the silent era up through Hollywood’s Golden Age, we have artifacts from all the major stars, including Mary Pickford, Charlie Chaplin, Laurel & Hardy, Groucho Marx, Jean Harlow, Carole Lombard, Clark Gable, Errol Flynn, Humphrey Bogart, Marlene Dietrich, Rita Hayworth, Orson Welles, Charlton Heston, Elizabeth Taylor, Marlon Brando, John Wayne, James Dean and Marilyn Monroe.

Following is just a glimpse of the items awaiting you in these pages that left indelible marks in Hollywood history:

Selection of (18) photographs from Metropolis from the personal collection of director Fritz Lang.
Groucho Marx “Otis B. Driftwood” tailcoat worn in A Night at the Opera.
Charlie Chaplin “Hynkel” military dress uniform jacket from The Great Dictator.
Orson Welles “Charles Foster Kane” coat from Citizen Kane.
Gary Cooper “Lou Gehrig” Yankee uniform from The Pride of the Yankees.
Debbie Reynolds “Kathy Selden” dress from Singin’ in the Rain.
Gene Kelly signature Impressionist ballet costume from An American in Paris.
Sophia Loren signature dress worn as “Phaedra” in Boy on a Dolphin.
James Dean “Jett Rink” tuxedo from Giant.
Elizabeth Taylor “Leslie Benedict” dress from Giant.
Charlton Heston “Judah Ben-Hur” screen used practice chariot from Ben-Hur.
Yul Brynner “The King of Siam” jacket from The King and I.
Leslie Caron “Gigi” gown from Gigi.
Steve McQueen “Papillon” prisoner uniform from Papillon.
Robert De Niro “Vito Corleone” coat from The Godfather Part II.
Alec Guinness “Obi-Wan Kenobi” lightsaber and antique lightsaber chest from Star Wars.
Arnold Schwarzenegger “The Terminator” Harley-Davidson “Fat Boy” motorcycle from Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
Sigourney Weaver “Ripley” spacesuit from Alien.

These few examples represent the tip of the iceberg of this sale, which is so incredibly broad in scope and importance that mere words can only hint at its magnitude.

Thank you for participating and good luck!
