"I Axe My Way" Extremely Rare Connecticut Colonial Political Uniform Pewter Button - Listed As Albert PC-15

"I Axe My Way." United States Colonial and Political Uniform Button. Made of Cast Pewter. Original Shank Intact. Albert PC-15. Choice Very Fine.

35mm diameter. This extremely rare Cast Pewter Button reads, "I Axe My Way" on the front and is plain on the back, being in excellent condition. Although crudely cast, it has its complete, original shank fully intact with a hole made through the cast pewter for wearing. There is a shallow edge irregularity at the upper right. It shows almost no actual wear or circulation. This button is listed in Alphaeus Albert's book on U.S. Military, Colonial, and Political Clothing Buttons, as “PC-15”. It obviously has some connection to Colonial Connecticut, as the "I Axe My Way" legend wording at center appears on the 1737 and 1739 Granby/Higley Coppers of Colonial Connecticut. The meaning of the wording is an enigma and lost through time, but there is little doubt that the button is made much later, though still of the Colonial Period. Exceedingly Rare and hard to place an exact value upon due to the lack of any prior sale records. This is the sole and only example we have seen in 40 years. The very first we have offered.
