Offered to you in this lot is an ancient Hopewell Tradition, Native American Indian figural tube pipe. The pipe more specifically, is attributed to the Crab Orchard Culture of the Middle Woodland Period, in the time line of 200 BC - 500 AD. The piece was discovered in the Ohio River, near the town of Tolu, Kentucky - In the heart of Hopewell Culture territory. The tube pipe appears to be crafted of local sandstone, showing a traditional, tapered construction, and depicting the face of a regal Native man. Additionally, the pipe shows accenting carvings, a ring around the mouth piece and bowl, as well as flowing garments for the man. The early artifact is in good condition, there is a sticker on the bare portion showing the pieces provenance. The pipe measures 8 3/4" long, and 1 7/8" wide across the bowl.
