Born in Katowice, Siliescia. Obligated by his father to study engineering at the Berlin Polytechnic (1922-24), but became friendly with painters George Grosz and Otto Dix. Abandoned his studies and began to work as a typographer and book binder, then as an industrial draftsman in an advertising agency. Gave up all German State activities after the rise to power of the Nazis in 1933, and began to construct"artificial girls," published by Die Puppe in 1934. Fled to Paris in 1938, and began his life-long contact with the Surrealists. Drawings, paintings and printworks full of erotic variations and themes of the female body, including illustrations for the poems of Georges Hugnet Oeillades ciselees en Brances 1939. Lived in Medi 1942-46, where he had his first one-man exhibition at the Librairie Silvio Trentin, Toulouse, in 1944, then returned to Paris. Worked until death, constantly fascinated with erotic images and possibilities. Major retrospective exhibition at the Centre National d'Art Contemporain, Paris 1971-72. Died in Paris in 1975. You acknowledge that by accepting these Terms & Conditions you are opting in to receive emails and notifications about this auction sale and all other Universal sales and offerings. Buyer's Premium: A buyer's premium will be in effect for all auction sales and shall be added to each purchase to reach the total sales price. Total Sales Price: The total sales price of an item includes (i) the hammer price of the item (ii) the buyer's premium (iii) applicable sales and other taxes due on account of the sale, (iv) packing, shipping transportation and insurance charges, and customs fees and charges and duties, if applicable, and (v) any other amount due from the Buyer as provided in the Seller's e-commerce Policies posted on the Item Detail Page. Although obtained from sources deemed reliable, the Seller and Auctioneer make no warranty or guarantee to the accuracy of the information contained in any auction listing. 13. Entire Agreement; Waiver. This Agreement, including the Universal’s User Agreement and all exhibits and other documents are incorporated herein by reference, set forth the entire understanding and agreement of the parties and supersede any and all other written or oral agreements or understandings between the parties as to the subject matter of this Agreement. In the event of an inconsistency between this Agreement and any other document, which is part of this Agreement, the terms of this Agreement shall govern. From time to time during the term of this Agreement, Universal Collectibles, Universal B&I or Universal Live Auctions may amend this Agreement (including any incorporated documents) by posting the amended terms on any Universal site, emailing notice of the amendment to the Buyer, or otherwise communicating such amendment to the Buyer. Each amendment will be effective immediately after it is initially posted on any Universal site, emailed to the Buyer, or otherwise communicated to the Buyer. The waiver of a breach of any provision of this Agreement will not operate or be interpreted as a waiver of any other or subsequent breach.
