This item is an antique hand crafted, and painted Immigrant trunk, dating from the mid-late 18th century, and originating from the Nordic region. The trunk features hand forged hardware, hand painted floral accents, and a heavy wooden construction. These beautiful trunks served practical and sentimental roles - bringing them across the ocean to the family's new destination, while carrying family heirlooms, and valuable possessions - they had to be exceptionally sturdy to make the journey. After families reached their new homestead, the trunks would be kept as furniture, and often passed down from generation to generation. This trunk in particular shows good condition for age, there has been a modern repair to the bottom of the piece, and the hinges utilize modern hardware. The trunk measures 49 1/8" wide, 24 1/4" deep, and 25 1/8" tall.
