DS, one page, 8.5 x 11, December 3, 1958. Kelly confirms her approval of the film, Invitation to Monte Carlo, to MGM executives. In part: “When we learned that the film…had been produced with your approval and cooperation and that of your husband, Prince Rainier, and that both your Serene Highnesses were interested in seeing this production distributed, we advised the producer of that film that we were removing any objections we might have to such distribution. Will you please sign below on the line designated for your signature to confirm that our contract with you dated September 17, 1952…has not in any way been prejudiced or impaired.” In fine condition, with light creasing, expected handling wear, scattered toning, and two filing punch holes. Accompanied by more than 30 pages of notes and copies of correspondence.

Retired from the movie scene, Kelly was still technically under contract to MGM...an unfilled commitment, at that. Studio executives were undoubtedly very hopeful that their still very bankable starlet might come back to the nest—even if she was now royalty. For her part, Kelly was more interested in overseeing the economic development of her principality. She saw the 1959 documentary film, Invitation to Monte Carlo, made by Richmond Productions, as a means to that end, and was graciously allowed to appear. Though some MGM officials had preferred her big screen return to be under their auspices, it is apparent that even Hollywood moguls could not say no to her charm and beauty.
