Featured in this lot is an illustration entitled PASH-EE--PA-HO "Little Stabbing Chief" from George Catlin's work "Native American Indians". George Catlin (July 26, 1796 – December 23, 1872) was an American painter, author, and traveler, who specialized in portraits of Native Americans in the Old West. Travelling to the American West five times during the 1830s, Catlin was the first white man to depict Plains Indians in their native territory. This illustration includes a printed description on the back which reads "old man, head civil chief who has resigned to younger men." This illustration sits in a wooden frame and is in good overall condition (some scuffs). The frame measures 15.5" x 12.5" and the illustration measures approx. 7.5" x 5.5".
