Stately wet plate, albumen 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite photo. Bust view in uniform with rank of brigadier general. Backmark: Whitehurst Gallery, Washington, D.C., M.J. Powers, Photographer. In fine condition, with some light toning, and a few light scratches towards the bottom of the image. This image is known as K-39 in the reference book, Custer in Photographs by D. Mark Katz. The view was taken on or about Aug. 8, 1864, by M.J. Powers, at Jessie H. Whitehurst's Gallery in Washington, D.C.
