This is an original G.C. (Gerry) Wentworth bronze sculpture titled "Johnny Appleseed". Gerry Wentworth was a Great Falls, Montana artist who grew up in the era just after Charles Russell's life. He was largely self taught and spent the majority of his life working in painting, sculpture and wood carving. Wentworth's works have been widely exhibited in such places as the C.M. Russell Show, the Phippen Art Show and the Frank Tenney Johnson Show. In 1981, he won Best of Show at the Northwest Americana Art Show. This sculpture shows a wonderful depiction of John Chapman, also known as Johnny Appleseed, who was an American pioneer nurseryman. The piece shows fantastic detail and artistic ability. The bronze sits on a solid walnut hardwood base with a placard that reads "Johnny Appleseed G.C. Wentworth". The sculpture has been signed by the artist and is dated "1981". It is numbered 3/20 as well. The sculpture is in very good condition. It measures 9" x 11.25" and is 17.5" tall. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity and a printed biography of the artist. The original gallery retail price was $2,250.
