This French School painting, circa 1900, in brown ink depicts a joyous Roman Bacchanale scene. Giltwood glazed frame measures 17.75" by 21.75" by 2.75". Portion of painting visible under matte measures 9" by 13.25". This item comes from the collection of Roni Steinberg Sokoloff and resided in her former 63-acre estate in Bedford New York known as Cantitoe Farms. (The estate is down the road from Martha Stewart's home by the same name.) Ms. Sokoloff purchased the piece from a Manhattan dealer in the early 1980s and had the work professionally framed. We have not inspected the work outside its frame. The work was appraised by Sotheby's for insurance purposes in 1998.
