Mauser rifles were produced for France both in 1939, on contract from the Belgians, and in the immediate post-War years, using the seized Mauser factory. Hooded blade front and tangent rear sights, with Mauser "S/42G" marking on the rear sight base, Belgian proofs on the barrel, "eagle/ 135" (Mauser) stamps on the receiver ring, and "Mod. 98/ svwMB" on top of the ring. Stamped components, with "svw" trigger guard, "byf" floor plate, and "lxr" follower. Smooth straight grip stock, with a cupped buttplate and a brown leather sling. With an unmarked bayonet, 10" blade, smooth grips, metal sheath and a leather frog.

Condition: Very fine as partially restored/refinished, showing 95% of the current blue finish, showing mild handling marks, a small amount of pitting on the front barrel band and barrel, bright edge wear and a brown patina on the cocking piece. Stock is excellent, with a few minor chips and dings. Slings show a few cracks and tears, a brown patina is forming on the sheath, frog good, bayonet very good, with light wear and chipped grip.
