French Charleville .69 caliber military-issue musket with US surcharge indicating use by early American forces from Revolution to Early federal period. The gun shows dark brown patina finish with scattered light toslightly heavy pitting and erosion. The heavy pitting occurring on the buttplate and scattered around the breech and barrel. Lock markings are visible, US surcharge on rear of lock is correct in our opinion. The stockshows a “T” stamping behind the sideplate. Stock is weathered and worn. Small losses around the ramrod channel. Some well done restorations and replacement of wood. Some losses around the butt and old military typemarks “133” around the buttstock. The lock has been expertly reconverted back to flint. An old period ramrod is included. These arms are important in the transition of US shoulder arms as they preceded the existenceof a national armory. Est: $2,000 - $4,000
