Sawed specimen 3/4 x 1 x 3 1/2" Banded quartz vein mineralized with moderate finely disseminated native gold and electrum. Light gray quartz band contains inclusions of darker gray vein quartz from adjacent band. The Elko Prince mine is in the northeast part of the Midas District. In 1915 the Elko Prince Mining Company began operation of its fifty-ton cyanide mill and was a high producer for five years. In April, 1922 a fire destroyed the mill and in 1924 The Gold Circle Consolidated Mining Company revitalized the district. The mines were closed in 1942 by the war. In 1994, geologist Ken Snyder, consulting for the Franco-Nevada and Euro-Nevada Joint venture discovered by drilling the Colorado Grande vein. The Ken Snyder Mine started up in 1998 and has produced to-date. In 2002 Newmont acquired and operated the mine and subsequently Klondex, the current operator acquired the mine.
