This is an example of a Manhattan Arms Second Model Percussion Pocket revolver manufactured by the Manhattan Firearms Company in Newark, New Jersey. These revolvers greatly resemble the Colt Model 1849 Pocket and 1851 Navy revolvers. Brass blade front and notch hammer nose rear sights, silver plated brass round trigger guard and back strap. The top barrel flat is marked "MANHATTAN FIRE ARMS / MANUFG. CO. NEW YORK". Six round un-fluted cylinder absent of the normal roll engraved oval panels. Matching serial number on the wedge, frame, barrel and bottom flat of the barrel. The frame, rear upper barrel flats and sides of the lug are floral scroll engraved with a punch dot background. Fitted with smooth two-piece ivory grips.
BBL: 5 inch octagon
Stock:
Gauge: 31 percussion
Finish: blue/casehardened
Grips: ivory
Serial Number: 35
Condition: Very good. The revolver retains 20% original blue finish mainly on the lower barrel flats, front edge of the cylinder and protected areas of the trigger guard and cylinder stops with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The rear sides of the loading lever show some traces of original case colors with a smooth silver gray on the balance. The grips are a bit undersized and remain fine with some hairline age cracks around the screw escutcheon and on the bottom, with a pleasant mellow patina. The hammer head is broken off, otherwise the action works fine. The engraving and markings are crisp and clear.
