Measuring 2 inches x 2 1/2 inches, the visible oval section of this tintype shows a great coat-wearing soldier, with his cap in his left hand, a sword (either 1840 NCO or 1840 Musician) in the right, with an unidentified revolver in a crossdraw holster on the right hip, and a Volcanic Repeating Pistol similar to the one in the preceding lot tucked into his belt on the right. The tintype is framed in gold foil with floral designs, with purple velvet lining inside the lid, and the 3 1/8 inches wide, 3 3/4 inches tall Gutta Percha case with floral designs front and back, and the front adorned with a field of 32 stars, a fort, sailing ship, and a sword with a Book of Law arranged around an American eagle with waving flag, shield, olive branch and a mortar. With a modern production folding brass frame, suitable for both open and closed display.

Condition: Excellent, with a few minor spots on the tintype, which shows fine detail along with a small amount of painted blush on the cheeks. Case is excellent, with some light chipping along the edges. When will you ever get an opportunity to buy one of these ever again?
