Manufactured in the 1880s, this is an excellent example of a scarce Fourth Model Merwin Hulbert Frontier Army revolver in rare 44 Russian caliber. This revolver features the ribbed barrel and the square butt configuration. The top of the rib is marked "MERWIN HULBERT & CO. NEW YORK U.S.A./PAT. APR.17.77 JUNE 15.80 MAR,82 JAN.9,83" and the left side of the frame below the cylinder is marked "RUSSIAN MODEL". The matching serial number is marked on the heel of the butt, rear face of the cylinder and on the barrel lug. Pinned blade front and frame notch rear sights. Sliding loading gate and folding hammer marked with the 1885 patent date. All nickel finish with a casehardened hammer and trigger, and fitted with checkered black hard rubber grips with the checkerboard at the top.

Condition: Excellent. The revolver retains 99% of the original nickel finish which is beginning to frost slightly in areas, and showing some minor muzzle and high edge wear. The hammer retains 97% vivid original case colors with some bright normal usage wear on the right side. The trigger guard shows 95% plus original case colors with a smooth silver gray on the balance. The grips are also excellent with some minor scuffs and very crisp checkering. The markings are clear and crisp. The action is excellent.
