This is an excellent example of a Winchester Third Model 1873 Deluxe Sporting Rifle with consignor information from Cody Firearms Museum stating the rifle was shipped from the warehouse on February 22, 1883 and lists the rifle features as: (1) plain trigger, (2) casehardened finish, (3) checkered pistol grip stock and (4) sling swivels. The rifle has the Third Model receiver with integral dust cover rail and concealed trigger pin. The dust cover has serrated edges. The upper receiver tang is factory drilled and tapped for a tang sight. The forearm and pistol grip stock are highly figured "fancy grain" walnut with Winchester "Style H" checkering. The pistol grip has an ebony inlay. The full octagon barrel and full-length magazine have a blue finish. The forearm cap, receiver, hammer, lever and solid crescent buttplate are color casehardened. The barrel is fitted with a dovetail mounted globe front sight and sporting style rear sight. Factory sling swivels are mounted on the forearm cap and stock. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the two-line legend: "WINCHESTER'S-REPEATING ARMS.NEW HAVEN. CT./KING'S-IMPROVEMENTS-PATENTED-MARCH 29. 1866. October 16. 1860." in front of the rear sight. "32-CAL." is roll-stamped on the top of the barrel just ahead of the receiver. The bottom of the cartridge elevator is roll-stamped "32 CAL" is script letters. The upper receiver tang is marked "{-MODEl 1873-}" in fancy letters with foliate devices at either end. The serial number "107987/A" is stamped on the lower tang in script numerals.

Condition: Excellent. The rifle retains 95% of the original blue finish. The blue finish on the barrel and magazine shows only very minor edge wear. The barrel markings are crisp. The rifle has 85% plus of the original case colors on the receiver, forearm cap, hammer, loading lever and buttplate. The receiver sides have vivid case colors. The case colors on the side plates, hammer, lever, buttplate and forearm are more muted and shows some very minor handling wear. The loading gate has 80% plus of the niter blue finish. The stock and forearm are excellent with very minor storage wear. Most of the original high luster varnish finish remains. The checkering on the stock and forearm is very sharp. The barrel and frame markings are crisp. This is an exceptional original example of a desirable Winchester Deluxe Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle.
