Manufactured circa 1872 to 1888 with a total production of approximately 6,000, with approximately 5,000 sold to the U.S. government. The pistol has an 8" blue barrel, casehardened frame with distinctive 'hump' on the back strap, the trigger is niter blue and bright hammer and breech block. The left side of the frame is marked "REMINGTON'S ILION N.Y. U.S.A. / PAT MAY 3D NOV 15TH 1864 APRIL 17TH 1866" and stamped with a "P" and "S" below and ahead of the marking. The pistol is mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and one piece smooth grip with a boxed script "C.R.S." inspection cartouche on the left.
BBL: 8 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 50 CF
Finish: blue/casehardened
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: NSN
Condition: Excellent plus. The barrel retains 98% plus original high polish blue finish with some mild thinning on the muzzle end and a few light scratches. The frame retains 99% original vivid case colors with some dried protective coating residue, which appears to have been applied some time ago. The trigger retains 98% original bright niter blue and the hammer and breechblock remain as bright as the day they were made. The stock and forearm are also excellent with a couple of small pressure dents and dings. There is a long minor pressure dent on the upper left of the grip, otherwise only a few barely noticeable dings and sharp cartouche. The bore is bright and excellent. A truly exceptional Remington 1871 Army Pistol that would be very difficult to improve on.
