Exceptional Experimental Mauser Sheet Metal Semi-Automatic Rifle
This rifle is very similar in design to the Mauser 06-08 semi-automatic rifle with all parts (except the barrel and buttplate) made of stamped sheet metal parts. The only visible marking on the rifle is a single digit number "6" which is struck over number "4" on top of the stamped sheet metal receiver, which has a machined barrel extension. The bolt cocking knob is mounted on the top of the bolt and the safety is mounted on the rear of the receiver. Equipped with a redesigned bolt, with a roller-lock system similar to the Sturmgewehr (StG.) 45, suggesting a transitional design in the Stg45's development. Serial number "2" is stamped on the underbelly of the stock. The barrel is equipped with a high ramped blade front sight with a hood and the rear sight is an adjustable tangent sight mounted on the front of the receiver graduated to 1,000 meters mounted in a stamped base, with the Mauser "R/W" stamp on the underside. The stock is one piece oil finished pistol grip configuration with a matching handguard, sling slot and cupped buttplate with compartment. Complete with a high capacity detachable magazine.

Condition: Excellent. The rifle retains 98% original blue finish with some minor flaking on the front sight base and high edge wear on the front sight hood and receiver. There is some finish loss on the magazine due to a chemical or solvent (see phot), and there is some minor pitting on the exposed metal. The stock is excellent with only light handling marks. Mechanically excellent. A once in a lifetime oppurtunity to own one of the finest rarities in WWII collectables.
