Manufacturer: DWM Model: 1902 Carbine
This is a beautiful example of an original DWM Model 1902 Luger carbine rig that is complete with the matching walnut shoulder stock, two spare wooden base magazines, and cleaning equipment all contained in a deluxe leather bound walnut storage/display case made by the Huey gun case company. These carbines were an early attempt by DWM to compete with the stocked Mauser Broomhandle carbines as well as all the other stocked pistols being produced in the later 19th and early 20th century in Europe. The unique feature of these pistols is that they have the longer 11 3/4 inch barrel, with the DWM factory frame hanger that holds the small walnut forend, which houses a unique, small spring accelerator mechanism, inside that is necessary to correctly cycle the heavier/longer carbine length barrel during the cycling phase. All these 1902 Luger carbines have all the very desirable early features such as: the long old style frame, flat mainspring, grip safety, dished toggles with toggle lock on the right side, and the recessed/flat breech bolt with the small spring extractor. The top of the chamber has the prominent "American Eagle" crest and the front toggle has the DWM (Deutsche Waffen und Munitions Fabriken) logo on it. The full serial number (21927) is correctly marked on the underside of the frame extension, and the underside of the barrel, with the last two digits of the serial number (27) is marked on the bottom of the recoil lug, side of the grip safety, trigger, takedown lever, side plate, breech bolt, and toggle assembly. The forend is also correctly numbered (27) inside the cutout for the frame extension and also matches the pistol. The grips are numbered with "9 over 27" on the back sides of each grip. As noted, this fine example of a Luger carbine has the original attaching iron numbered on top (927) that has been fitted with a correct style reproduction walnut stock. The stock itself conforms to the original in the length, configuration, checkering and finish, which has been fitted with a correct style plastic butt plate and original sling swivel. The pistol magazine, as well as the two spare magazines, are all original and have a nickel plated body with the correct wood base. As noted, this wonderful carbine rig is housed in an original style leather bound, red lined French fitted display case. The case itself contains a brass cleaning rod, screw driver and cleaning brush all with turned ebony handles, and one box of original DWM 7.65mm Luger ammunition. The box is marked: "50 Patrone, zum Selbstlade-Karabiner Kal 7.65 m/m Parabellum, Made in Germany" which has a, "A.F. Stoeger" label on the side of the box. The pistol and accessories are all housed in a contemporary case that measures, approximately 21 inches long, by 12 inches wide and features all walnut construction, with brass reinforcing plates on the corners with bras hinges, front locks. The entire case is leather bound in a heavy grade of premium leather with leather reinforced corners and a heavy leather strap handle on the front. Inside the case it has a red felt lining with a gold and black label on the inside the lid that reads: "DWM/Berlin Parabellum-Pistol", and is complete with a heavy cloth outside cover. This pistol was featured in CADA Gun Journal, cover shot, August 1994, and is included. Also, an authentication letter dated Jan. 8, 1998 from noted author Charles Kenyon, is included with lot.
