The chamber is marked "-U.S.N.- /[anchor]/No19932/-J.N.J.-" and the left side of the receiver is marked with the two line address/patent dates marking. It is equipped with a blade front sight and a ladder rear sight graduated to 2,000 yards. The rear barrel band is marked "U" and has a sling swivel. Smooth full length pistol grip stock with hand guard, buttstock sling swivel stud and buttplate with compartment. With the rifle is the correct style of bayonet with scabbard. The blade of the bayonet has the "T" enclosed in a triangle inspections stamp and the scabbard has the knob on the tip which is a characteristic from the first U.S. Navy contract of bayonets. The rifle was from the second contract that the Navy issued in 1898 for 5,000 rifles. The rifles in this contract were serial numbered from 15,001 to 20,000 and were inspected by Lt. John N. Jordan.

Excellent. The musket retains 95% original blue finish showing some thinning to a brown. The cleaned, reoiled wood is very fine with a few very minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. One will look a long time to find a better example!
