Produced at the Harpers Ferry Armory, the Model 1819 was the U.S. Army's first breech loading long arm, as well as the first arm with fully interchangeable parts. Blade and fixed notch sights, properly offset to the left, with the breech marked "J.H. HALL/ H. FERRY/ US/ 1837" perpendicular to the bore. The breech catch is the proper "trigger" design, with the extended pistol grip trigger guard. Smooth straight grip stock with button head ramrod, sling swivels, three barrel bands and smooth flat buttplate.
